The wait is almost over! Kunle Afolayan’s epic Yoruba fantasy returns to Netflix on January 30, 2026. Officially titled Aníkúlápó: The Ghoul Awakens, this second season of the series follows the massive success of the original 2022 film and the first series, Rise of the Spectre.
What’s Coming in the New Season?
This installment expands the universe far beyond the Oyo Empire, taking the story across borders into Ghana and beyond. The stakes have never been higher:
The Plot: Saro’s journey for spiritual redemption continues. As a dark power is awakened, the story dives deep into themes of vengeance, destiny, and the high price of power.
The Cast: Expect to see familiar faces like Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, and Sola Sobowale.
New Faces: The cast is growing with exciting additions including Bukunmi “KieKie” Adeaga-Ilori, Saga, and even an international turn by Portuguese star Pedro Teixeira. Notably, NiDCOM Chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa will also make her acting debut.
Why You Should Be Excited
Filmed at the KAP Film Village in Oyo and on location in Cape Coast, Ghana, the production values are set to be higher than ever. Afolayan has promised a narrative that tests love and loyalty while introducing a "sinister power" that could change everything we know about the Aníkúlápó lore.
"Once power is awakened, it demands a price. This season, survival is the real crown." — Kunle Afolayan
