The journey from girlhood to womanhood
Once a little girl, scared of the world,
hiding fearfully within her parents abode.
Afraid of people, afraid of places.
So it was at the age :nine.
Once a little girl, so tender and fragile.
Scared even of things that breathed.
The male counterparts are poison, she believed.
So it was at the age: eleven.
Once a little girl, stepping into the shoes: 'teens'.
Her shell crumbling and her hormones screaming.
Admirers attracting, self-esteem still crawling.
So it was at the age : thirteen.
Morphing into a lady, all beauty and charm.
Hands still fastened to mom's apron.
Still scared of the males that walked the earth.
So it was at the age: fifteen.
Becoming a young woman, curious and all.
Overly conscious of the stares and whistles.
Gradually letting go mother's apron.
And so it was at the age: seventeen.
Transcending higher phases, all brains and beauty.
The pressure increases to attain significance.
By now, matters of the heart are already creeping in.
So it continues, from the age: nineteen
Eyes illuminating with wisdom and desires.
Finding self-worth in the words of Abba.
Heart now swells with the hunger to take on the world.
And here it blooms in the early twenties.
