Tryphenna is one of those singers whom you just can't wait for to get hold of the microphone. From singing BGV for the amazing Tiwa savage, to rendering flawless covers on the internet and working on her own singles. She does them all with grace. We had the opportunity of having this awesome chat with her and we grabbed it. She has such a chill vibe. To think that she agreed to do this conversation, even though she had just been discharged from the sick bed was beyond gracious of her. Enjoy reading the brief, interesting conversation we had.
rayscorner: Kindly tell us what your full name is?
Tryphenna: So my full name is Oluwatobiloba Tryphenna Akinsuyi ( Chuckels)
rayscorner: How long have you been into music
Tryphenna: Professionally let's say 5 years and still counting. But you know, I've been doing music for as long as I can remember.
rayscorner: So, we recently saw you on the IG page of the Official ASA... Tell us the story behind that.
Tryphenna: Okay, so I think I posted a video at some point, someone in clout Africa saw it and decided to invite me over for a session. And I decided to sing the song Ocean by ASA. Tagged Asa, So I think, they got to see it and reposted it. Which I'm super grateful for
rayscorner: What do you like about the music industry here in Nigeria and what don't you like?
Tryphenna: the fact that it's a lot easier to navigate when you know the right people. I also like that we have been able to concentrate on our strength as Nigerians. What I don't like is the fact a lot of female artists at the Top don't support younger Artists. Which I find really sad.
rayscorner: Do you believe in collaborations, if yes, who would you like to do a collab with, if you haven't already
Tryphenna: yes I believe in collaborations, especially if the artists are established stars, it gives visibility. About who I'd love to collaborate with, I have not really given a thought to it as to who, but I'm definitely open.
rayscorner: I'm very sure our inquisitive readers wanna know if you are single, so are you?
Tryphenna: (Laughs out loud) A lot of the time, I like to keep my relationship life private. When I say private I don't mean secret. But you know some information are meant for people within your private space. So even when I become a huge artist. This would still be my response.
rayscorner: What's your favorite thing about your self
Tryphenna: ( Sighs) The fact that I channel what people see as Negative into something positive. Let me use this as an instance, there's an assumption that people from my state are stubborn, and I agree that I am stubborn, but I've learned to channel it into a strong will power. So when I say I'm not doing this, I mean it, and to do it, there'd have to be a good reason besides someone just saying, I should. I also like the fact that I can be many things all at a time.
rayscorner: What genre of music would you say you fit into
Tryphenna: Uhm at the moment I would say Afro soul. But on the other hand I wouldn't like to be boxed. I'd love to express a lot of other genres too
rayscorner: What's your favorite Asa song and why?
Tryphenna: my favorite ASA song is Bibabke , Jailer, Iba and Ocean which is my new favorite. I remember when I started doing music, I was never a fan of ASA songs. But because the Audience would love her songs, I had to start scoring her songs. It was at that point that I realised that there are deeper meanings to her songs. Her songs are so rich in content.
rayscorner: Are you currently working on any projects? Ep/ Album / Concerts any of those?
Tryphenna: Yes at the moment I am, I'm working on a single at the moment. And yea, we will see.
rayscorner: Tell us about the MOBAWARDS 2022, what was it like?
Tryphenna: Ah it wasn't my first time at the award , I worked with Tiwa Savage, I sang background and she is such a sweet soul. Every moment with her is such a different feeling. I love her person and her music
rayscorner: Can you share with us a time maybe a highpoint or lowest point where you learnt a powerful lesson.. I call it landmark moments in life.
Tryphenna: I have a lot of those moments, this was towards my education, I had to ask my self, the effort I put into my Life, Education can it earn or afford me the kind of life I desire to live. So this made me sit tight and focus, cos I do love a good life, I mean who doesn't. But I had to learn to pay the price.
rayscorner: what advice would you give to ladies wanting to tow same line as you
Tryphenna: All I'd say is, a lot of people might tell you Its not easy, and maybe it isn't, but hard work and consistency always pay off. And of course God should be a major Part of everything. Know what you want and why you want it. When purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
rayscorner: and finally What is the best Advice you ever received?
Tryphenna: hmmmm, I've got a lot of good advice from people, but let me see. I think the best one would be to "Believe in Myself" yea.
rayscorner: This was a very beautiful conversation indeed, we wish this could go on all day, we love your energy and your vibe, we can't wait for the amazing things that you are set to do in the near future .
Tryphenna: (chuckles) Thank you so much for having me.
