“Why would you focus on the flaw in someone else’s life and fail to notice the glaring flaws of your own ?” are the exact words of Jesus in the passion translation of the Bible and here is a short but quite fascinating story of how this scripture changed my life.

So if you are like me, you might want to grab a small sized popcorn and enjoy but most importantly to allow those same words to transform you if they already haven't.

I ate a lot when I was younger and I became fat as a result. What was I expecting though? Anyways, I tried to convince myself that I loved myself and I was confident. It helped me defend myself against some of those badmouths of a classmate but it definitely did not defend me from me. 

Fast forward to 100 level. On what looked like a normal morning, I was dragging my fat self to the junction to get a bus for lectures when a really pretty lady walked briskly past me. I studied her a little while walking behind her and guess what my mind started cooking up.

“If only this girl could just exercise a little bit and work on her tummy, she would be rocking an amazing figure 8 and then she just works on her skin a little bit and ….” I’m so sure the Holy Spirit took a very good laugh at me that day. I still laugh at myself when I remember what went through my mind.

In the most non-condemning manner I heard in my spirit “have you taken a good look at yourself, you can be everything you want that lady to be if only you did what you want her to do.”  It dawned on me, I’m focusing on the flaws in someone else’s life while mine does not need a microscope to spot.

Since then, if I ever caught myself analysing what someone else could be doing better with themselves I immediately take a look inward. It is a sign to me that there is something I could definitely be doing better.

I am not all I want to be yet but I have come such a long way because I kept focusing on the flaws in my own life rather than someone else's. 

Warning: It is definitely not going to be easy. Sometimes you will doubt yourself. Sometimes you will feel so left behind and feel everyone else is doing better than you. 

The good news is that it will all make sense day by day as you hold on to the strength of the Word and the Spirit and keep pushing and refining yourself and becoming all that God wants and needs you to be.
