Getting Ghanain Artist Abochi on board was a bit of a challenge, because of his very busy schedule, I mean, he is the new kid on the block with a nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the year to back that up.
He finally made out time for us, explaining a bit about his busy schedule and we were ecstatic to have this conversation.

Here's how the conversation went.

Rayscorner: Hello Abochi, First we must say that your songs are on TV and radio stations here in Nigeria. You have a great sound and your productions are tight. How do you arrive at such excellence in artistry.?

Abochi: Well first of all thank you for having me. It's a great privilege to know that my songs are heard in Nigeria and also that Nigeria appreciates my sounds and production.
 I would say this was achieved by first getting to know what I want as an Artist, which part i want to take and where I want to go. What I really want to do is speak for people , to talk about relatable issues, talking about what is going in my life and also things I have observed. Since I know what I want to do, that drives my music in terms of production and sound quality. With every song I create I have a sound in my head, to execute that effectively I had to learn Music production in order to enhance my craft

Raycorner: Now that we have got that out of our chest, hmmmm... can you tell us, about yourself?

Abochi: Well my name is Bisma Qwabena Enyan, Abochi is my Stage name.

Rayscorner: How long have you been doing music?

Abochi: Professionals for 5 years 

Rayscorner: If you were not doing music, what would you be doing? Any other passion?

Abochi: If I wasn't doing music, j would probably be a bank Manager, playing football or maybe a drawing Artist ( Chuckles)

Rayscorner: Let's talk about your love life , fans are curious, lol, I am sure they would love to know.

Abochi: Well my love life is something I like to keep private, but if you have to know.. I'm in a relationship.

Rayscorner: Before you became a house hold name, did you know anyone in the industry?

Abochi: When I started I didn't know anybody in the industry except for one DJ but as I progressed I got to meet people like koffi Kinaata and the likes.

Rayscorner: What do you think of the music industry here in Nigeria, In comparison to Ghana.

Abochi: Actually I've never been comfortable with the Ghana Naija Comparison (laughs out loud) cos I believe both countries have amazing talents. I believe it can also be a healthy competition, a healthy comparison. I think both countries are doing fine, but the Advantage Nigeria may have over  Ghana is the population. Nigeria has a population of over 200 million and Ghana is about 30 million. I think as an Artist in Ghana if you post your songs on YouTube for example, you may not get the same amount of views a Nigerian might get, and I understand that, but both countries have the same Amazing Artists, and I'm hoping it's always going to be a healthy competition.

Rayscorner: Who is your favourite Ghanian Artist and why?

Abochi: (Deep Sigh) Honestly this is a very difficult question to answer because I have many favorite Ghanaian Artists , but I'll go with koffi Kinaatta.

Rayscorner: Let's talk about your new award Nomination, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, how does that make you feel?

Abochi: Well I feel very honored to have been nominated for the award. As an Artist one thing that can make you happy is realising that people appreciate whatever creativity you put out there and this is an evidence to that, so...yea, it's a good feeling.

Rayscorner: Which of your songs do you feel has had the most impact on your fans?

Abochi: Bestie

Rayscorner: Have you ever performed here in Nigeria? What was the experience like ?

Abochi: I've actually never been to Nigeria, but I appreciate entertainment when it comes to Nigeria.
The music is good, the movies are good and uh.... I like how they don't play with culture. I'm hoping to be in Nigeria pretty soon and hopefully collaborate with some of the stars.

Rayscorner: Most Artists seem to be relocating to the western part of the world, do you think you would ever consider that?

Abochi: Well as an Artist I believe that having your songs heard by the people is a good feeling, I don't do songs for myself or just for my country people. So if our songs are good, I think it's okay that we move it to the western world.

Rayscorner: The political scene here in Africa is very controversial, how in your own opinion has that affected the music or Entertainment industry?

Abochi: hmmm...Politics in Africa has a lot of challenges. I speak for my country, when I say I don't see the government being of help. Everybody consumes music but the government doesn't pay Artist any attention. You see great Artists die poor even in Nigeria. You get a lot of Artist complain about how royalties are claimed. Honestly in Africa the political scene isn't favourable for Entertainers.

Rayscorner: We saw a qoute on your IG a while back " A head full of fears has no space for dreams, so start now, for every great journey begins with a step " We thought that was very powerful. What inspired it?

Abochi: Before j started music I was like .. Oh I'm gonna record a lot of songs down, wait till I had enough money or for big investors,but I realized I was wasting a lot of time. So I decided to bring one minutes freestyles and that was what gave me the attention, followers and subscribers. I used a poor quality camera and it still didn't matter, I still got the attention. So i realised in life to be great you don't always have to wait for all the tools to be great, you just have to start with what you have from where you are. That's what inspired it.

Rayscorner: So prison break has become like the perfect breakup anthem. Is this what you hoped it would become?

Abochi: (laughs out loud) With prison break its something I experienced and observed. Usually when there's a "break up" people concentrate on the sad side of it.  I believe when someone toxic leaves your life its an opportunity for you to become the better person. I did prison break for people in toxic relationships. If you are in a relationship and because of the relationship you feel stuck and unable to move forward or become who you are, it's a bad sign, coming out of such a relationship is like a prison break. So I wanted people to see things from that point of view.

Rayscorner: Have you ever been heart broken and how did  it feel? 

Abochi: Yes, I have been heart broken before and it was the worst feeling ever. I pray I don't go through it again.

Rayscorner: Let's talk about international collaborations, most artist seem to enjoy this extended hand of fellowship from the western world , we have Beyonce and wizkid and so many others. what do you think is responsible for this sudden acceptance.?

Abochi: Well I'm happy about that, it's a good thing, its a good opportunity to introduce the African sound to the western world.
I feel like the African sound has developed into something greater and the world has no other choice but to pay attention to us, and it's a good feeling 

Rayscorner: Do you see that happening for you sometime soon? And which artist would you like to work with?

Abochi: I see that happening, I can't really tell which artist though. looking at Jon billion , Ed Sheeran , some of these Africa Artists like Simi, Patoranking, a lot of them. I hope it happens.

Rayscorner: Let's talk about the money, life as an artist is quite flashy, the cars, the lit pictures and all, is it always like that behind the scenes?

Abochi : Well, many are like that behind the scenes but several others also aren't. But people expect Artist to live large so it puts some of the Artists under a lot of pressure and depression. But I guess it comes with the business, show business. (Chuckles)

Rayscorner: I know you love music, but if it wasn't paying you as much, would you still be doing music?

Abochi: It's good to know you love my music, but if it wasn't paying a lot, I would still be doing music, cos I love music a lot.

Rayscorner: Here in Nigeria there are so many music competitions but not all the participants or even the winners make it to the lime light, is it the same over there?

Abochi: Its its the same every where. Not every musician makes it to the limelight and it is not a bad thing. Some musicians are supposed to do good music, play for cooperate events and few executive people. The limelight expects you to do some kind of songs, you know, follow the trend. I know some musicians who are not in the limelight but make decent money. They prefer to stick to making good music instead of following the trend.

Rayscorner: In your opinion, what is the missing link, why do people win singing shows and then struggle to maintain the limelight?

Abochi: I can't really tell but when you win a singing show you become popular. And one thing that is painful is being popular and not knowing what to do with it. Most of these shows perform other people songs. So after winning they have to learn to write , determine they kind of music they want to do. Must have investors because they are popular and that means they have to be at a certain standard. They can't Walk to the studio like an up and coming Artist would, so they need a car. I mean, maybe they just can sing, but can they do all these things. Can they make commercial songs? So I think they need a good team to help study and build their brand and frankly most of them can't afford this financially or Intellectually. I believe that's how come some of these guys struggle.

Rayscorner: finally Abochi, tell us what projects you have in the pipeline? What should our readers, and your fans expect

Abochi: Yes there is a lot of projects in the pipeline, I just released a new single it's available on YouTube and all streaming platforms.
I also have a possible EP coming out later this year. I'm going to be releasing more songs this year.
