Gwen hale is an Artist with a unique sound, we have admired her Art for some time now. It was nice to finally have her here on our corner for a quick chat.
rayscorner : lets start with a bit of introduction, can you please tell us what your Full Name is?
Gwenhale: My name is Halle Chinemerem Gwendaline Roseline
rayscorner: So how did you come about the fancy Name Gwen hale
Gwenhale: It's not a fancy name, it is actually my name. It was given to me by my late Aunt, while growing up. I just started using it because it is really cute. so, it's my name.
rayscorner: These days most Musicians delve into acting, so do you see your self towing that line?
Gwenhale: Well yes, and not just because it is what everybody is doing. I studied theatre arts. So definitely I'm gonna be acting sometime in the future
rayscorner: If you would... What kind of roles do you see your self being cast as, which kind would you prefer to play.
Gwenhale: Uhm maybe like a friend or a supporting character, I don't see myself as lead character. So maybe friend, mother at some point... Or basically dramatic characters... Like a talkative.. ( Laughs)
rayscorner: I'm sure your fans would like to know, if you are single , maried, or if you think they should mind their business... Lol
Gwenhale: Well I'm single o
rayscorner: Do you have any Phobias that you would like to share?
Gwenhale: Heights. I'm a little afraid of the dark and large bodies of water. But I'm very afraid of heights. Like, I literally just took my first flight this year. And I just needed to conquer that fear.
rayscorner: I know firsthand that the music industry is a particularly tough one, even if you have a great voice like you do, So what are the challenges that you have faced so far, and how did you overcome them?
Gwenhale: Production, that's a major issue getting a producer who understands my voice, because I have a unique voice. So it can be hard getting a good producer who is also pocket friendly (chuckles). How I overcome that? I Guess I experiment with different producers to see the ones with the best output
rayscorner: Just the Other day When Jdess released her Ep ADA, the introductory Monologue said that there were times when she cried... Can you relate?
Gwenhale: Yea a few times I have had to cry, cos the music industry can be hectic sometimes.
rayscorner: Do you think the music industry in Nigeria is fair on women?
Gwenhale: In the past I would have said No, but now we see a lot of successful female artists. Aryra Starr, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Teni, Tems and the likes, and they are really good
rayscorner: There's this unspoken rule/rumour about women needing to Expose themselves in music videos in other to gain attention, artists like Teni seem to be changing that narrative, what do you think about that?
Gwenhale: I'm not big on exposing my body. I'm big on comfort, so if I'm not comfortable with what I'm wearing, it a No for me.
rayscorner: As far as Nudity goes in the industry, how far do you think is too far?
Gwenhale: Too far would be Naked, leaving only little to imagination.
rayscorner: Enough about industry for a bit, Can you tell us who are those artists that you listen to, and whom do you think you sound like?
Gwenhale: People say I sound like Tems, I don't hear it, but people say it. Outside Nigeria people say I sound like Jessica reedy, or Nina Simone.
rayscorner: I know you are on a journey as far as your career is concerned, what advice would you give to other people towing your line ?
Gwenhale: Uhm... I would say be ready. Also be polite and respectful cos you never know who is who. Also take advantage of Social media it is a powerful tool.
rayscorner: Finally What is the Next thing/project fans should expect from you...? Wet our Appetite....😊
Gwenhale: uhm.. I'm working on an EP, and I hope to drop it soon. There's is also an Amazing Single just around the corner, so sit tight and just keep fingers crossed.
